Starting Point

The client wanted a practical solution to store and organize pry bars and similar workshop tools using magnetic retention. While Olsa already offered accessories for hand tools, there was no dedicated holder optimized for pry bars.

At the start, the product existed as a high-level concept with a desired function — hold pry tools securely via magnetic force — but it lacked detailed geometry, internal magnet seats, manufacturable parting lines, and assembly logic needed to move toward production.

Key challenges at this stage included:
• Designing internal magnet pockets and mounting features
• Structuring geometry to work with magnets while supporting easy insertion/removal
• Establishing manufacturable walls, draft, and ribs
• Ensuring the holder fit into existing workshop tool systems

My Contribution

I took the concept from idea to a fully engineered mechanical design ready for prototyping and tooling.

My work included:
• Defining the overall functional geometry based on workshop usage cases and tool sizes
• Designing embedded magnet seats and retention features to ensure pry bars are held securely but remain easy to use
• Optimizing wall thickness, draft angles, ribs, and part splits for injection molding or other manufacturing methods
• Organizing parting lines and internal features for clean tooling and assembly
• Preparing clean, production-ready CAD and STEP files for supplier review

Throughout the process, the focus was on mechanical robustness, consistent product language with existing Olsa accessories, and manufacturing feasibility.

Final Outcome

The final design delivered a set of magnetic prybar holders that:
• Hold pry bars securely through embedded magnets
• Maintain easy insertion and removal for workshop efficiency
• Use clean, manufacturable geometry with defined draft and tooling features
• Are ready for prototyping and production

The design supports a practical workshop workflow while aligning visually and functionally with the Olsa product family.
