Starting Point

The client needed a custom AirTag holder for dog collars that could survive real outdoor use while remaining compact, secure, and easy to assemble at scale.

Early references existed, but the product required a ground-up mechanical design to ensure proper silicone retention, screw alignment, and reliable assembly using off-the-shelf hardware.

My Contribution

I designed the full product architecture, including:

  • Two-piece hard shell enclosure
  • Silicone insert geometry with alignment features
  • Brass insert + screw fastening strategy
  • Assembly logic optimized for supplier workflows

The design was iterated live with the client through multiple revisions, balancing durability, manufacturability, and user assembly experience.
Final deliverables included STEP and STL files, ready for prototyping and supplier handoff.

Final Outcome

The final design resulted in a compact, rugged AirTag holder that securely protects the device while remaining comfortable for dogs during everyday use.

Key outcomes:

  • Clean internal alignment using mechanical features (no guesswork during assembly)
  • Silicone insert fully supported and compressed for long-term durability
  • Hardware selected and sized to match readily available market screws
  • Geometry optimized for both 3D printing and production tooling
